Desmond

A surname used as a given name in Ireland. Spread to England in 1900. Rarely used in the U.S. until the 1950s. Widely recognized for Desmond Tutu, the South African bishop and advocate against apartheid in South Africa. He was awarded the Nobel Peace Prize in 1984.
