A variation of the French name Blanche that debuted on the popularity chart in 1973. The name of two Shakespeare characters, the meek younger daughter in "The Taming of the Shrew" and a courtesan in "Othello." Also the subject of a song in "Kiss Me, Kate," a Tony Award-winning 1948 musical spin-off of Shakespeare's earlier play. The name was later inspired by activist Bianca Jagger, who became famous as the first wife of Rolling Stone's Mick Jagger, and is now known as a peace worker and diplomat.
