This airy, ethereal name -- a line of Hungarian kings -- comes with two musical references: bluegrass/jazz banjo player Bela Fleck and Hungarian composer Bela Bartok. Bella has become popular as a girl name; there's no reason why this masculine form shouldn't attract notice as a cool choice, too. , A Kongo word meaning to perch.

I named my baby girl Béla (pronounced Bay-la) after Bela Fleck and the Flecktones. Coincidentally, I had a tumor on my ovaries removed while 4 months pregnant, and my surgeon's father was Hungarian and was named Béla. All the more fitting. Everyone I have met LOVES her name!!! Sure, people mispronounce it as Bella when they read it, but correcting them is no problem. It's a unique, uncommon name that isn't some crazy 10 letter name. LOVE IT!
