From the name of the continent, which is possibly derived from the Assyrian word, asu, meaning "east." According to the Koran, it is the name of Pharaoh's wife who raised Moses as her own son. Sometimes used as a short form of trendy names ending with "ia," such as Anastasia or Aspasia. It debuted on the chart in 1979 and landed among the top 300 from 1990 to 2005. Also a variation of Aisha, the name of Muhammad's favorite wife, referred to as one of the four "perfect women."
