The Danger:
The product is being recalled because it has the potential to be contaminated with Listeria monocytogenes, an organism which can cause serious and sometimes fatal infections in young children, frail or elderly people, and others with weakened immune systems. Although healthy individuals may suffer only short-term symptoms such as high fever, severe headache, stiffness, nausea, abdominal pain and diarrhea, Listeria infection can cause miscarriages and stillbirths among pregnant women. No illnesses have been reported to date in connection with this problem.
Description:
The recalled Mexicali Dip was sold bulk in 10 pound cases to one distributor in Michigan under the Lipari Old Tyme label. It was also sold in retail stores in Michigan in bulk 5 pounds bags and 14 ounce containers under the Dutch Treat Salads label. The product has "Use By" dates of 10/18/13 through 11/22/13.
