The mirena IUD (intrauterine device) is a hormone-releasing contraceptive that is placed in the uterus and delivers a small amount of hormone (progestin) directly to the uterus - this form of contraception needs to be placed by a healthcare provider and is effective for up to five years.  The mirena IUD is not only a very effective contraceptive but is also beneficial for the treatment of disorders such as abnormal uterine bleeding.  The IUD is placed within seven days of the start of the menstrual period and is 99% effective as a contraceptive.

A woman may try to conceive right after the IUD is removed. It takes the average young couple about 4-6 months to conceive and after one year approximately 85-90% of couples will conceive.

I got my iud in April of 2009 and got it removed in April of 2014. It's been 8 months since the removal and for the first few months I was on birth control pills but stopped in June 2014. I had iregular periods before but now I don't get my period at all. My husband and i want to have another baby and wonder why we haven't got pregnant yet.

I had my Mirena IUD removed on Oct 1/14. We immediately began "trying" to conceive but I did not know my cycle or anything as I hadn't had a period the entire time I had my IUD (~3 years). I did not have a true period after removal - just one day of light spotting on Oct 10 and I got my first positive pregnancy test on Nov 12th!

I had the mirena for 2 1/2 years removed it in the middle of my period in Sep 9th, 2014 and found out I was pregnant Oct 6, 2014. Going to see the OBGYN next week.

I had a mirena for 3 1/2 yrs. I had it removed due to migraines, which were not caused by the mirena, and was pregnant within Two Weeks! I have another one which is set to be removed jan 2015. Hopefully I get pregnant just as fast this time :)

There's a very informative site with lots of information on how to lose weight and get rid of the mirena iud side effects and find other natural birth control options. Check out: Her detox has also been immensely helpful to my recovery and I seriously recommend it

I had the Mirena IUD in for 3 1/2 years and got it removed in the middle of March and we immediately got pregnant within 1 month. It depends on how you cycle after the removal. I thought it wouldn't happen so quickly, but it sure did and now I am due New Years Day. :o) Good luck to you!!
