How long before my belly is normal again?
How long will it take for the skin on my belly to go back to normal after the baby?

Yeah, I know, I've been there too!  The skin over your belly has been slowly stretching out to accomadate your growing uterus over the last 9 1/2 months of pregnancy.  Immediately after delivery of the baby, the uterus shrinks down to the the level of the belly button, and over the next 6 to 10 weeks, goes back to its original size (the size of a closed fist) and location (the pelvis).  The skin, however, takes much longer to go back to its pre-pregnancy condition.  Immediately after delivery, many women describe their lower bellies as "bowls full of jelly" as the skin has no elasticity and hangs over the lower belly.  Most of the time, this will go back to the way you were over the next few months.  Some of this is pure luck (your genetics) and some is work (exercising.) In some women, though, the skin looses its ability to regain its pre-pregnancy elasticity and does not go back to the way it was.  If you are so inclined and you fall into this category, your friendly neighborhood plastic surgeon can help you out with a procedure called an abdominoplasty.
