Can I take a newborn out in public?
Is it safe to take a newborn baby out in public?

Even though she may look teeny and delicate, there's no reason to keep your baby cooped up at home -- it's perfectly fine for her to go out and get some fresh air from day one. But it's best to avoid large, crowded, enclosed places with poor ventilation (like the mall) until your baby is 6 to 8 weeks, which limits her exposure to airborne germs that could be dangerous for her immature immune system. Instead, go for a walk in the park or around your neighborhood (as long as it's not the dead of winter). In any season, as a general rule, dress baby in the same number of layers you're wearing. And indoors or out, remember that your baby's most likely to get sick from being handled by germy friends and family, so make sure that everyone scrubs up before holding her, especially during cold and flu season.

My son was 3wks early and born on Christmas. I also have a daughter who turned 2 on dec 29. We promised her a trip to disneyland n we kept that promise even with my son being a couple days old. My family was very upset with us for taking him out but their dr said it was completely fine, that the concern lies more with ppl touching n holding him than him being out in the fresh air. He's 3 wks old now and we're out and about pretty much everyday.

when i had my first daughter i was overly cautious and waited 3 weeks to go out after she was born. With my son i waited a week. I just had another baby on April 4th and i went out to my Mommy Group April 7th. I felt fine, a bit sore, and she was all bundled up and i didn't allow holds with people who might be sick, but it was fine! People were impressed with my laid back approach at bringing Everly out and it made it easier for me as well!

Personally I would be busy with breastfeeding and I would just want a break but if you need to I would. Unless it is unbelievably hot or cold, I would be worried.

well i have a 4 1/2 month old and i have taken her everywhere with me since day 1 we have taken 2 trips to montana and go fishing and to parks... ect... she has only had 2 very minor colds and im sure its not from going places... i think its fine as long as you dont let everyone touch and hold your baby.
