• Normal weight before pregnancy: 25-35 pounds
• Overweight before pregnancy: 15-25 pounds
• Obese before pregnancy: 15 pounds
• Carrying twins: 35-45 pounds
• Carrying triplets: 50 pounds
You should gain more weight toward the middle and end of your pregnancy than at the beginning. Most normal-weight women can expect to put on about two to four pounds total in the first trimester and three to four pounds a month in the second and third trimesters.
