Does marijuana affect a baby in the womb?

How does marijuana affect a baby?

Submitted by spankyfreak171

Marijuana exposure in utero has both short- and long-term effects on the baby.  Short-term effects include: lowered response to light stimuli, decreased ability to "self soothe," more tremors, more easily startled/scared, and more high-pitched cries.

Long-term effects include both physical and developmental problems.  Physically, children will have smaller head circumferences, which often do not correct as they grow, so they will look physically look different from their peers.  Developmentally, children will have higher rates of increased hyperactivity, impulsivity, and delinquency. Children who had marijuana exposure in the first and second trimesters have been found to possess lower IQ scores than children of the same age who were not exposed.

Most importantly, though, marijuana use in this country is illegal. An immediate report is sent by a delivering facility to either social work and/or Child Protective Services if any pregnant woman and any newborn screens positive for marijuana.

This Drs opinion has actually been proven to be untrue. Children with mothers that used Marijuana while pregnant have shown to have higher IQs. Low birthweight has been a slight issue for some I have read, but not for the women I've known. Also, I've noticed the children that have major personality and behavioral issues are more so children with ignorant parents that have similar issues. These parents raise their children with a more a degrading approach instead of the love and light approach.

actually, research shows no ill will to anyone who smokes weed, i will be honest and say i haven't smoked in a a year, but the reason the previous responders son is a mess is due to bad parenting and the sons choice. my mother drank and smoked while with me and i turned out better than my brothers did because they were raised by my mother and i was raised by my father. if you don't raise your child properly, then they will grow up to be a mess as his son is.

The other responder is WRONG...the article is correct. My son is a mess thanks to my ex-wife smoking while pregnant to "relieve morning sickness". I warned her countlessly too. My son is 27 and is a mess. Good luck all you ignorant potheads; pretty soon our country will be FULL of ignorant stoner imbeciles. Yep.
