Can I eat cheese while I'm pregnant?
Is it safe to eat cheese while I'm pregnant?

In the past, pregnant women were told to avoid all soft cheeses such as Brie, feta, and goat cheese, since these types are more likely to contain listeria, a bacterium that can cause premature delivery and stillbirth. However, the FDA has recently changed its recommendation, so these cheeses are now okay as long as they were made with pasteurized milk. Always check labels, and when in doubt, avoid it. But because cheese is a good source of calcium and protein, don't be afraid to eat other varieties like cheddar and Swiss. --Sally Kuzemchak
