What are the signs of a miscarriage?
The main symptoms of miscarriage are vaginal bleeding, other fluid or tissue discharge leaking from your vagina, or painful cramps in your stomach or lower back. If you're experiencing any of these, you should call your doctor right away.
However, you should also know that light spotting during early pregnancy is common and not necessarily a sign of miscarriage. If you're experiencing this, you should let your doctor know, but there's usually no need to panic.
While up to 15 percent of known pregnancies end in miscarriage, most occur during the first trimester. Once you've heard your baby's heartbeat (usually by week 12 or so), that risk drops significantly.
