Should I avoid hot tubs while trying to get pregnant?

Should my husband and I avoid the hot tub while we're trying to get pregnant?

Using a hot tub isn't likely to have a big impact on most couples, but it may affect your ability to conceive if your husband has a low-ish sperm count. Soaking in a hot tub for even 10 minutes significantly raises body temperature, which can affect your husband's ability to make healthy sperm. If you want to play things safe, avoid frequent dips (though once or twice a month is probably fine) and make sure to keep them short. Once you do become pregnant, you should take a nine-month hot tub hiatus. Raising body temperature too high -- especially early in pregnancy -- has been linked to miscarriage and birth defects.
