Should I let my baby chew on my finger?

Is it okay to let my teething baby chew on my finger?
Submitted by Parents.com Team

When those gums are throbbing, nothing beats an adult finger for a really good chew for many babies! Some parents aren't happy about being used as teethers because they're afraid the baby might go on chewing their fingers after a sharp little tooth or two has come through. However, by that time, your baby won't have such an urgent need to chew (it hurts more before the tooth erupts) until the next soon-to-sprout tooth starts bothering her. At that point, it's usually not hard to switch her to chewing on a teething ring or washcloth instead.
