How much is too much baby cereal?
I have a 7 month old and she's pretty big (she's in the 95th percentile). How much baby cereal is too much cereal within one day? She just seems to want a lot of it for her age. I give her 5 Tbsp in the morning, 4 Tbsp in the afternoon, and then usually 5 Tbsp again in the evening. But it seems like I need to start adding another Tbsp. to the afternoon cereal. In between meals, there is her formula bottle (8 oz for 3 times a day). Is this too much? She eats it all, but does not get an upset stomach or constipation/diarrhea.
It’s great that your daughter is such a good eater and, at this age, it’s fine to feed her a quarter cup to a half cup of iron-fortified infant cereal daily. If she wants to eat more, try increasing the amount of other foods you offer her, such as mashed fruits and veggies and small amounts of yogurt, cottage cheese, or soft, pasteurized cheese. Pureed meats and poultry and mashed peas and beans will also help satisfy her hunger and her body’s need for protein. Your pediatrician can help keep an eye on your baby's rate of growth and weight gain to make sure that she’s not gaining weight too rapidly.
