How do I get my son to look at me more?

Why doesn't my 6-week-old son look into my eyes?

Your child is able to see pretty clearly at a distance of 10-14 inches by the time he is 6 weeks old. Most young infants will look at their caregiver during feedings and other times when they are being held close. Young infants are not able to see you across the room clearly, although they may respond to the sound of your voice. Most do not maintain eye contact for more than a few seconds to half a minute before they look at other things.  If your infant does not appear to make eye contact at all, visit the pediatrician to ensure that there are no problems with his vision.
